"I have had two absolutely wonderful wedding experiences working with Tim, both as a bridesmaid and now a bride! He was so unbelievably professional and easy to be comfortable around! He helped me out in such short notice as I had a previous panicking experience with another photographer and I couldn’t be more grateful. Turn around time was UNREAL and the photos were absolutely perfect. 10/10 recommend!!"

This time of year offers the most stunning natural backdrop for a ceremony. Here, the beautiful arch arrangement perfectly complemented the rich tones of the fall foliage behind it, creating a ceremony space that felt warm, lush, and completely timeless.
It's proof that sometimes, the best detail is the one nature provides. Save this for your autumn wedding inspiration!

You want to look back at your ceremony photos and see genuine emotion, not a dozen phone screens.
Tip Tuesday is all about an Unplugged Ceremony.
The Tip: Politely ask your guests to put away their phones and cameras during the ceremony.
Why does this matter for your photos?
Clear Views: It ensures no one steps into the aisle to grab a shot, blocking the key moment your professional photographer is paid to capture.
Genuine Presence: Your guests are fully present to witness your authentic vows, not distracted by trying to get a selfie.
Timeless Look: Your final gallery will have a beautiful, cohesive, and timeless look without the distracting glare of screens in the background.

When the sun sets and candles flicker, florals at the reception come alive in a whole new way. ⨠From lush centerpieces to tiny bud vases scattered across tables, they add warmth and dimension to the celebration.

6 Years I've been married to my wife, we've moved a few times, had 3 kids, shared endless adventures and travels together. The traditional 6 year gift is iron, so I worked with a jeweler and had this custom meteorite pendant necklace made for her (meteorites contain iron). A perfect gift for a wife and mother who is out of this world!

This time of year is filled with such a rich, cozy energy. With a beautiful arch and classic fall mums, their ceremony was perfectly set against the stunning backdrop of the season. Itās moments like these that make me fall in love with Maine weddings every single year.

BoutonniĆØres are small, but they carry big meaning. š¹ Iāve seen them crafted with a single flower to honor a loved one, or with herbs like rosemary for remembrance.
These little details often get overlooked, but when captured in a photo, they become timeless keepsakes.

In Tunisian and other Muslim wedding traditions, itās common for the bride and groom to feed each other as a symbolic first act of married life. Often this includes honey, dates, or sweet pastries, representing a future filled with abundance, joy, and tenderness.
This gesture goes beyond sharing food ā itās a promise to nurture, support, and look after one another. Whether solemn and sweet or full of laughter, itās one of those traditions that feels both intimate and universal.

Pick an engagment location that's unique to you. For this couple, it was a engagement session in a library, her love of books and her fiance came out in full force.

In a newborn session, itās the wisps of hair, the curl of a tiny foot, and the perfect shape of a sleeping profile. At a wedding, itās the way the sunlight catches the rings, the delicate details of a bouquet, or the tear in a parentās eye.
These small moments are a beautiful part of your story, and they deserve to be captured with just as much care as the big ones.

.
Florals arenāt just for bouquetsāthey transform spaces. šøšæ From arches draped in blooms to minimalist aisle accents, they set the tone the moment your guests arrive.
I love photographing the way florals frame a ceremony, especially when the light hits just right. Itās a perfect balance of artistry between the floristās vision and the coupleās story.

In parts of Eastern Europe and India, it was once common for guests (or mischievous groomsmen) to āstealā the brideās or groomās shoes during the reception. The shoes would only be returned once a small ransom was paid ā usually in drinks, dancing, or money.
It may sound silly, but even today, shoes carry symbolism of lifeās journey. And for me, a close-up macro of wedding shoes waiting under the table could easily tie back to this playful old custom.

Every bouquet tells a story. Whether itās bold pops of color, soft pastel tones, or wild greenery, I always take time to capture the flowers up close. šæāØ Theyāre not just an accessoryātheyāre part of the memory of your wedding day.
Fun fact: Many couples choose flowers with personal meaningālike roses for love, lavender for devotion, or peonies for prosperity.

By the time the rings make it back to the couple, theyāre filled with the love of everyone present. Itās such a touching, inclusive way to involve the entire guest list in the ceremony.

This tradition has ancient rootsāin cultures from Egypt to Greece to Rome, rings were symbols of eternity. The circular shape represented a love without end, and the space in the center was seen as a doorway into a new chapter of life together.
The tradition of wearing the wedding ring on the fourth finger of the left hand comes from the (now debunked, but still poetic) belief that a āvein of loveā ran directly from that finger to the heart.
These days, your ring can be whatever you want it to be: gold or wood, diamonds or tattoos, handed down or handmade. What matters isnāt the materialāitās the moment.
When I photograph this part of a ceremony, I always slow down. Thereās a stillness to it, a gravity. Whether you're exchanging heirlooms or something totally unique, it's the start of your forever.
#TraditionThursday #RingExchange #SymbolismInWeddings #MaineWeddingPhotographer

This is one of the most common questions I get before a shoot, and honestlyāitās a great one. What you wear can totally change the vibe of your photos (and how confident you feel in them).
⨠Hereās my go-to advice:
Donāt matchācoordinate. Instead of identical colors or matching plaid shirts, think complementary tones and textures. If one of you is in soft beige linen, the other might look great in olive or rust.
Neutrals always photograph beautifully, especially against natural backdrops. If youāre shooting near the ocean, forest, or field, softer tones tend to let the two of you shine instead of fighting with the scenery.
š Donāt forget comfort! Your outfits should allow for walking, hugging, twirling, and all the silly-cute stuff weāll do during your session. Layers are great because they add visual interest and can be removed if you want variety.
šÆ Bonus Tip: Bring an extra outfit! Sometimes weāll start casual and end with something more dressyāor vice versa. Itās always good to have options depending on the light, location, and vibe.
Need help choosing? Iām always happy to weigh in or send inspo. You donāt have to figure it all out alone.

.
Also if anyone wants to play in the water definitely would love to do this again!

Iāve pinned boutonniĆØres when no one else could figure it out. Iāve sewn dress straps back together in a pinch. Iāve held umbrellas, fetched snacks for flower girls, and calmed nervous hands with a smile and a quiet word.
Some days, Iām part photographer, part problem-solver, part timeline enforcer, part honorary member of the wedding party. Thatās the job. And honestly? I love it that way.
Years in the military taught me how to stay calm under pressure. Years as a dad gave me a sixth sense for when kids (or grown-ups!) are about to melt down. And years of experience behind the camera taught me how to find the beauty in chaos, even when the scheduleās off or the sky decides to pour.
So when you hire me, youāre not just getting someone to document your day. Youāre getting someone whoās ready for whatever the day throws at usāand will handle it with professionalism, humor, and heart.

Back in medieval Europe, it was believed that touching the bride would bring good fortune. People would literally chase her around and try to grab parts of her dress or flowers (yikes!). To escape the crowd, brides began tossing their bouquets as a distractionāand the tradition stuck.
Now, itās one of the more playful moments in a reception. Whether itās a serious competition or just a lighthearted toss to your crew, itās always high energy, and usually full of laughs.
And if the bouquet toss isnāt your style? Swap it out for a floral dedication to someone special, a āgroup bouquetā for all the single friends, or skip it entirely. The beauty of traditions is that you get to decide which ones feel right.

This custom actually dates back to ancient Rome. The idea was that evil spirits could enter the bride through the soles of her feetāso by lifting her, the groom was literally protecting her as they entered their new home. Some versions say it also avoided the bad luck of the bride tripping while entering the home for the first time. Others point to a more symbolic meaning: being āswept off your feetā and into a new life together.
Today? Itās mostly just a romantic gesture (and sometimes a great photo op). Whether you keep the tradition or not, it's a reminder that so many wedding moments are steeped in layers of history, love, and symbolismāand itās up to you which ones feel meaningful to carry forward.

Iām Tim, the photographer behind Tide and True. Iām based in Scarborough, Maine, where I live with my wife, our three kids, and a small urban microfarm full of quail, bees, and garden beds. I grew up here, and thereās something about the ocean that always feels like homeāitās where I go to unwind and get inspired.
Photography has always been a passion, but I made it my full-time gig after leaving my software engineering career when our first daughter was born. It was one of the best decisions Iāve ever made. Iām known for a true-to-life style (hence Tide and True), focusing on those real, candid moments youāll actually want to remember.
On wedding days, Iām not just your photographerāIām the one with the emergency kit, ready to fix a popped button or help bustle a gown in record time. Friends would say Iām energetic, funny, and motivated. I just like to keep things relaxed so you can enjoy the day while I capture it all.
If youāre planning a wedding, family session, or branding shoot in Maine (or beyond!) and want photos that feel real, Iād love to chat. And if you made it this farāthanks for being here! ššø
